Letter to Janakananda: The Importance of Yoga Bangles According to Yogananda

Yoga bangles are of importance according to Swami Sri Yukteswar, who recommended them to Yogananda, as we saw in "Autobiography of a Yogi", because they act as a spiritual antenna for the wearer, with the proportions and purity of the metals used being vital.

Yogananda conveys in a letter to his disciple Rajarsi Janakananda: Why do yoga bangles* work?

We transcribe part of that letter:

"According to astrological laws, there is nothing better than a yoga bracelet* to ward off the bad influences of the planets. Every two bodies in the universe attract each other. When the adhesive power of the cells becomes weaker with age, the attraction of the planet becomes stronger, causing more laxity in the cells, inviting physical disease and mental disorders.

The yoga bracelet and its combinations of metals, as established by the rishis, emit electric rays, invisible to human eyes, that counteract all planetary vibrations. Just like a lightning rod is attached to a house to absorb lightning and thunder, the yoga bracelet acts as a lightning rod that absorbs the ferocity of the bad planetary influence on the body.

When physical illness attacks the body, accidents are drawn by bad karma, business problems occur due to a weak body or nerves disturb mental health; the yoga bracelet will lessen the force of a physical or mental karmic attack."

Yogananda also explained in his Lessons the usefulness of these bracelets for overcoming the knots or granthis in the anahata and ajna chakras.

We hope you have enjoyed this, we feel fortunate to be able to keep this legacy** alive.

*In reference to the astrological bangle and those that combine silver with copper, depending on whether we want to balance mind or body.
**Of which we have found traces in Mohenjo Daro and among the Celts.
