¿Aun no has leído la Bhagavad Guita?

Haven't you read the Bhagavad Gita yet?

Posted by Luis J. Pérez on

Today we bring you the cornerstone book of Hinduism, an excerpt from the epic "Mahabharata" called Bhagavad Gita, which explains the nature of man and his relationship with God in an engaging way.

The setting is "Kurukshetra", the battlefield, where the Kurus and Pandavas armies face each other, ready for an all-out fight.

Time and space stand still when Arjuna, the lord of the land, son of Pandu, takes up his bow and asks Krishna to place his chariot between the two armies to observe those gathered for battle.

Arjuna feels discouraged seeing his parents, grandparents, uncles, teachers, friends... his mouth dries up, his limbs weaken, his body trembles, and his mind spins. Doubt grips his spirit, and he expresses his desire not to fight.

Arjuna crying

Then Lord Krishna speaks to Arjuna and explains the foundations of Hindu philosophy, highlighting:

II.12 There has never been a time when I did not exist, nor these kings, nor will we ever cease to exist in the future.

II.13 In this body, the soul passes from childhood to youth and old age, and likewise, then passes to another body. The balanced person does not grieve over this.

II.20 (the soul) is never born nor dies. When it comes to be, it never ceases to exist. It is unborn, eternal, immutable, and ancient. It does not die when the body is killed.

A must-read and entertaining book, to be read gradually, with many versions commented on by masters, but a version without commentary like the following is sufficiently clear.

We hope you enjoy the Bhagavad Gita!
